Seven Bruin Women Qualify for NCAA Outdoor National Championships in June

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - UCLA Track and Field completed four days of regional competition at the NCAA West First Rounds on Saturday evening. Held from Wednesday, May 22, to Saturday, May 25, the University of Arkansas hosted the meet at John McDonell Field in Fayetteville, Ark.
Five student-athletes in the discus, 800m, and 4x400m relay advanced to the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the final day of the women's competition, with an overall total of seven Bruin women securing spots at the national championships.
They join the seven Bruin men who also qualified in this week's regional competition and will head to Eugene, Ore. for the final meet of the outdoor season from June 5-8.
Saturday's Qualifiers
Lyvante Su'emai (55.67m, 182-7) qualified for the national championships in the discus throw to begin Saturday's competition.
Kate Jendrezak (2:02.46) automatically qualified in the 800m race after taking second in her heat and placing fourth. Jendrezak also earned an automatic qualification with teammates Kaylen Fletcher, Naomi Johnson, and Aly Conyers in the 4x400m relay race, winning their heat and finishing fifth overall (3:28.48).
Prior to Saturday's qualifications, Federica Botter (53.76m, 176-4) and Mayyi Mahama (64.46m, 211-6) secured national championship spots in the javelin and hammer events, respectively, on Thursday, May 23.
Men's Qualifiers
Seven Bruin men will also compete in the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, representing UCLA in the hammer, discus, 400m, and the 4x400m relay.
Kris Emig was the first to punch a ticket to Oregon, taking home 11th in the hammer throw (66.83m, 219-3).
The next six Bruins qualified for the national championships on Friday, May 24. Antonie Nortje ran a 45.41 to secure a spot in the 400m race. He will also compete in the 4x400m relay race alongside teammates Myles Misener-Daley, Sam Herenton, and Ismail Turner in June. The squad earned an automatic qualification with a third-place finish in their heat (3:05.04).
On the field side, Aidan Elbettar (58.56m, 192-1) and Michael Pinckney (58.43m, 191-8) will represent UCLA in Eugene after securing top 10 finishes in the men's discus.
2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships
The 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships will occur from Wednesday, June 5, to Saturday, June 8, hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
