LOS ANGELES โ€“ UCLA will retain Andrew Ferris as an assistant coach for the 2024-25 campaign, the Sherie L. and Donald G. Morrison UCLA Director of Track & Field/Cross Country Joanna Hayes announced Friday.

ย "I am excited to stay in Westwood," said Ferris, "and I can't wait to build on the momentum within our program. I am grateful to Coach Hayes for the opportunity to continue working with our distance team โ€“ her enthusiasm is contagious, and she has a great vision for the future of the Bruins!"
ย
Ferris, who was on staff for the 2023-24 cross country and track & field seasons, was responsible for leading the distance runners on the course and on the track for the 800m through 10,000m events. In his first season with UCLA track & field, he helped junior Mia Kane capture the Pac-12 individual title in the 3,000m steeplechase. With Ferris' guidance, senior Michael Mireles finished as the Conference runner-up in men's 5,000m race. The Bruins also claimed eight marks on UCLA's all-time top 10 lists in indoor and outdoor distance events during the 2024 track seasons.
ย
"I am excited to have Coach Andrew Ferris on our team, where he will continue to lead and inspire our cross country and distance athletes," said Hayes.ย "Coach Ferris has demonstrated his effectiveness in achieving excellent results and fostering trust among his athletes.ย I look forward to working with him to uphold UCLA's storied legacy."
ย
The distance coach boasts 14 All-American honors and 21 conference champions under his direction during his NCAA coaching career. He also coaches professional runner Maël Gouyette, who will represent France in the men's 1500m at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
ย
Ferris and the Bruin distance crew will be back in action after the conclusion of the global games in August; UCLA has three regular season meets on the docket before the postseason begins in November.
ย
The Bruins open the 2024 campaign with a dual meet against UC Riverside; the two programs will go head-to-head in Big Bear, Calif., to begin the season. The Bruins will see some familiar foes when they visit the University of Oregon in mid-October for the Bill Dellinger Invite. UCLA faces its new conference opponents at the Big Ten Championships, hosted by the University of Illinois, on Nov. 1. The Bruins head to Washington state for the NCAA West Regional meet two weeks after the conference meet; student-athletes that advance past the West Regional will compete at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Madison, Wis., on Nov. 23.
