No. 24 UCLA Sets 400 Medley Relay School Record in Dual at No. 10 Cal

BERKELEY, Calif. - The No. 24 UCLA Swim and Dive team broke their third school record of the weekend in their dual meet against No. 10 California on Saturday afternoon. The final score of the day was Cal 187, UCLA 106.
 
The Bruins got off to a strong start in the day's first event, breaking the school record in the 400 medley relay. The A team of Fay Lustria, Karolina Piechowicz, Emma Harvey, and Ana Jih-Schiff finished in second place in the event with a record-setting time of 3:31.94.
 
In the first individual event of the competition, Ashley Kolessar finished second in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:49.89. In the next event, the 200 freestyle, Gizem Guvenc finished third at 1:48.35.
 
Emma Harvey picked up another podium finish in the 100 back, earning third place with a time of 52.35. 
 
Karolina Piechowicz then earned her second win of the weekend in the 100 breaststroke, finishing the event in 59.59. Eva Carlson finished in third place in the event with a time of 1:00.53.
 
Eden Cheng continued her success this weekend, picking up wins in both diving events. She finished first in the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 283.95. She earned her second first-place finish in the 3-meter diving competition with a score of 314.50. 
 
After the first break, Guvenc earned another spot on the podium with a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 49.61.
 
Carlson picked up her first event win of the weekend in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:11.62. In the following event, the 500 freestyle, Kolessar finished in third with a time of 4:48.55. Harvey then finished the 100 fly in third place with a time of 52.37.
 
In the final individual event of the day, Paige MacEachern earned a third-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:17.83.
 
To finish off Saturday's events, the UCLA A team finished in third place in the 200 freestyle relay. The team, consisting of Harvey, Jih-Schiff, Lustria, and Carlson combined for a time of 1:30.77.
 
UP NEXT: The Bruins return to Los Angeles to face off against crosstown rival USC at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center on Friday, Jan. 31. The met is scheduled to begin at noon PT.
