Bruins Draw With No. 18 Maryland, 0-0

October 03, 2025 | Men's Soccer

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA men's soccer program tied with No. 18 Maryland 0-0 at Wallis Annenberg Stadium on Friday evening.

UCLA (2-5-3, 2-2-1 Big Ten) had eight shots in the game, and held No. 18 Maryland (6-0-3, 2-0-2 Big Ten) to 12 attempts, while keeper Kevin Box for the Bruins made two saves. Sergi Solans Ormo and Artem Vovk led the Bruins offensively with three shots in the game.

The Bruins kept the Terrapins off the scoresheet for the first time in the Terrapins' nine games so far in 2025. Kevin Box, making his first appearance and start for the Bruins in goal was a big reason why, as he made two huge stops for the Bruins.

Despite not having a shot in the first half until the final minute, the Bruins managed the game well and limited Maryland to just one shot on target, which Box got his fingertips too to push the ball out ofr a corner in the 38th minute of action.

The two sides then headed into the halftime break scoreless.

As for the second 45 minutes, the Bruins had multiple chances to open the scoring. Solans Ormo was played through on the goal in the 66th minute of action, but his shot was just wide of the post, and the game remained 0-0. Later in the half, Mack, in goal for the Terripans, denied Solans Omo again, as his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper in the 86th minute.

Defensively, Box had to make just one stop in the second half, as the defense allowed just five shots, preserving the shutout and the crucial point in Big Ten play.
