Bruins at OSU Invite, USC Diving Invite This Week

November 17, 2025 | Swimming & Diving

LOS ANGELES โ€“ The UCLA swimming and diving team returns to action this week at the Ohio State Invite, Tuesday through Friday, and at the USC Diving Invite, Thursday through Saturday. The OSU Invite will be streamed live on B1G+, and results will be available via MeetMobie.

Prelims at the OSU Invite will start at 6:30 am PT, while the finals session each day will start at 2:30 pm PT.

In addition to Ohio State, the participating teams are Cincinnati, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Penn State, Purdue, UCLA and Yale. Pitt, Northwestern and Miami will compete in diving only.

The Bruins head into the annual midseason invitational fresh off a strong showing at Arizona State and Arizona on Nov. 7 and 8. UCLA tied No. 18 ASU 150-150, while the Bruins took the Wildcats to the wire, before falling 160-139.

Rosie Murphy and Jada Duncan led the way for UCLA on the week and earned Big Ten Swimmer of the Week and Freshman of the Week for their performances.

Murphy set a school record in the 200 backstroke on Friday afternoon in UCLA's duel meet at No. 18 ASU. The senior touched the wall in a new record time of 1:52.39. That time is ranked 10th fastest nationally in the discipline.

Over the course of the weekend, Murphy recorded four event wins, she won both the 200 back and the 200 IM on both Friday and Saturday. Murphy also helped multiple UCLA relay squads to top-two finishes in their races.

Duncan earned five event wins in UCLA's dual meets at No. 18 Arizona State and at Arizona over the weekend. The freshman won both the 50 free and the 100 fly in the meet as ASU, and won the 100 free and 100 fly on Saturday in the dual at Arizona.

Duncan also helped the Bruin relays shine. The freshman helped the Bruins win the 400 medley relay at Arizona State to open the meet. Her 50 free win in 22.02 in the dual at ASU is the 15th fastest time in the country to date.

UCLA split a pair of dual meets to open the 2025-26 dual calendar two weeks ago in Michigan. The Bruins took down Northwestern, 165.5-134.5, and fell to No. 10 Michigan 193-103.

In the tri-meet, the Bruins had multiple swimmers and divers earn NCAA'A' cut qualifying times/marks, and had multiple event podium finishers. Claudia Yovanovich earned a win for the Bruins in the 100 back, touching the wall in 52.87, while Eden Cheng won the 3-meter competition with a score of 299.80.

At the USC Invitational meet, UCLA finished third of four teams. The four teams that competed the weekend of October 10-12 were all ranked, with No. 9 USC and No. 12 Indiana finishing ahead of the Bruins, while No. 25 Texas A&M rounded out the field.

Against a field loaded with talent at the USC invite, the Bruins had multiple standout performances. On the first day of competition, the Bruins had six podium finishes. Sarah Bennetts earned UCLA's first event win of the weekend in the 100 breast, touching the wall in 1:00.59 to take the win.

Additionally, senior Rosie Murphy placed second in the 400 IM, and also took second overall in the 200 IM. UCLA's 400 medley relay team of Fay Lustria, Sarah Bennetts, Jada Duncan, and Gizem Guvenc earned the Bruins a third-place finish in 3:34.52, while the 200 free relay squad also took third in 1:29.77

On the diving side of things, Eden Cheng snagged fourth place in the 1m competition with a score of 271.05, while Molly Brascia finished seventh overall with a score of 236.85.
