
No. 12 Men's Golf Finishes in Third at Watersound Invitational

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – The No. 12 UCLA men's golf team finished in third place out of 12 teams at the Watersound Invitational on Tuesday, Feb. 18.
The Bruins concluded the two-day, 54-hole tournament 13 strokes behind first-place Florida State (26-under 838), shooting 13-under 851. Alabama finished in second place (17-under 847), just four strokes ahead of UCLA. Georgia Tech (12-under 852) and Vanderbilt (11-under 853) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Senior Pablo Ereño finished in a tie for sixth place on the individual leaderboard, closing the tournament as UCLA's highest individual performer. Ereño shot 5-under 211 over the two-day tournament, posting scores of 70-69-72 in three rounds.
Senior Omar Morales and junior Kyle An both tied for 14th place, through three rounds (3-under 213). Morales had scores of 69-71-63, while An shot 70-72-71 over two days. In the third round (Tuesday afternoon) An birdied three of his first six holes. He closed the final round at 1-under 71.
Freshman Baylor Larrabee shot 2-under 214, while classmate Trevor Garus finished the two-day tournament 19-over 235. In addition, senior Andy Yoon was competing as an individual at the tournament in Florida and shot 10-over 226.
UCLA will resume its spring season in late March. The Bruins will be back in action at The Goodwin, hosted at Stanford Golf Course in Palo Alto, Calif., from Thursday, March 27, through Saturday, March 29.
The Bruins have three remaining events in the spring season before traveling back East (to Baltimore, Md.) for the season-culminating Big Ten Championships (Baltimore Country Club). In addition to The Goodwin in Palo Alto, Calif., UCLA is scheduled to compete at the Calusa Cup in Naples, Fla., and at the Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix, Ariz.
Day One Recap
The Bruins finished in second place out of 12 teams after the first round of the Watersound Invitational on Monday.
The Bruins shot 7-under 281 on day one, just three strokes shy of Florida State (10-under 278). Alabama (3-under 285), Michigan State (1-under 287) and Clemson (1-over 289) rounded out the top five teams in the first round.
Due to impending rain in the forecast on Wednesday, the 12 teams in the tournament moved around the schedule for Tuesday, playing both the second and third rounds (36 total holes) on Tuesday. The shotgun start was scheduled for 8 a.m. ET (5 a.m. PT).
UCLA's top three golfers finished among the top six on the individual leaderboard on Monday. Morales was tied for third after the opening round, having shot 3-under 69. Ereño and An tied for sixth place (2-under 70), and freshman Baylor Larrabee finished T-18 at even par (72). Garus shot 4-over 76 in the opening round.
Morales opened the morning with four birdies through his opening nine holes (starting at Hole 1). He concluded the 18-hole course with seven birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.
Ereño finished with four birdies and two bogeys, while An had three birdies and one bogey.
Senior Andy Yoon, competing as an individual, shot 6-over 78.
