Men's Golf Captures the Title at The Goodwin

March 27, 2025 | Men's Golf

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 15-ranked UCLA men's golf team finished in first place at The Goodwin on Saturday evening, securing the tournament title at the 54-hole, three-day competition.

The Bruins registered their second team championship during the 2024-25 season, having won the title at The Preserve Golf Club Collegiate in Carmel, Calif., on Oct. 29, 2024. In addition, the title at The Goodwin this week helped UCLA secure its second team victory of the Armen Kirakossian era.

UCLA tallied a final team total of 11-under 829 at Stanford Golf Course. The Bruins finished nine strokes ahead of second-place Colorado (2-under 838), while Northwestern (1-under 839), BYU (even, 840) and Santa Clara and SMU (3-over 843) rounded out the top six teams.

"It's been just an all-around, amazing team effort," head coach Armen Kirakossian said on Saturday night. "Our team vibe was in a really good spot from the beginning. You could tell that our guys were loose, having fun, and ready to play. We came out a little bit tight in the first round on Thursday, just because of the layover that we've had from our past tournament in February, about a month ago. We knew that would be the case. We rallied hard and well, and our guys fought tough on a challenging golf course. It's always a tough place to play at Stanford's home course, with 30 teams, so I couldn't be prouder of the guys. They did this in a great fashion, competed hard and everybody contributed. I'm really proud of the team's vibe and energy and how they carried themselves. We can't wait for the next one at Calusa Pines."

Seniors Omar Morales and Pablo Ereño recorded top 10 finishes at The Goodwin. UCLA's top two seniors each finished in a tie for sixth place, carding 4-under 206 over three-day event. Ereño shot 5-under 65 on Saturday to move into the top 10 on the individual leaderboard.

Ereño totaled six birdies and one bogey through 18 holes on Sunday. Starting from hole 1, he birdied the first and seventh holes, before finishing with birdies on holes 10 and 11. After a bogey on the 12th hole, Ereño had birdies on the holes 16 and 18.

Morales finished Sunday's final round with four birdies, four bogeys and one double bogey.

Junior Kyle An and freshman Baylor Larrabee registered top 20 finishes. An shot 4-under 66 on Saturday, closing the three-day tournament with a score of 1-under 209. Larrabee shot 1-over 71 in the third round to finish The Goodwin at even par (210).

Sophomore Luke Powell shot 2-over 72 on each of the tournament's three days. He concluded The Goodwin with a score of 6-over 216.

Freshman Trevor Garus shot 4-over 214, competing as an individual. After carding 4-over 74 in round one, he registered scores of 2-under 68 on Friday and 2-over 72 on Sunday.
