Eight Bruins Named to All-Big Ten Gymnastics Teams

A total of eight UCLA gymnasts were named to the All-Big Ten Teams for 2025, the most of any team in the conference.

The regular season Big Ten champions placed four gymnasts on the first team โ€“ junior Jordan Chiles, graduate students Chae Campbell and Brooklyn Moors, and senior Emma Malabuyo. Selected to the second team were freshman Macy McGowan, senior Emily Lee, graduate student Frida Esparza and junior Ciena Alipio. McGowan was also named to the all-freshman team. Additionally Malabuyo was UCLA's honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Chiles adds to her collection of conference awards, earning all-conference acclaim for the third year. She was an eight-time All-Pac-12 honoree in 2022 and 2023. In the Big Ten, she has won six Gymnast of the Week honors, the most in the conference this season. The two-time Olympian has competed in at least three events in every meet this season and has five all-around victories in seven meets. She owns the Big Ten's highest all-around score of 39.750 and has been ranked No. 1 in the nation on floor exercise the last five weeks. Chiles has scored two perfect 10s this season, one each on uneven bars and floor exercise, with her floor 10 coming in walk-off fashion to beat Michigan State by one-tenth of a point. Chiles has posted a team-best 15 scores of 9.950 or higher, and she leads the team in event victories with 21. ย ย ย ย ย ย ย

This is the fifth consecutive year that Campbell has earned all-conference honors, as she won a total of seven All-Pac-12 accolades. In 2025, Campbell has competed in the all-around a team-high nine times, capturing two victories. Her season average of 39.442 leads the team, and her 39.625 all-around mark at Washington stands as the No. 2 all-around score in the Big Ten this season. Campbell ranks No. 20 nationally and No. 2 in the Big Ten in the all-around and is No. 17 nationally on vault and No. 23 on beam. The eight-time All-American has scored season-highs of 9.975 on floor, 9.950 on beam, 9.925 on vault and 9.875 on bars. She has career-highs of 9.950 or higher on all four events, including three perfect 10s on floor.

Moors receives her second consecutive all-conference honor. Ranked in the Top 5 all season on floor exercise, Moors averages 9.943 on her signature event, the second-highest season average in the nation. She has eight scores of 9.950 or higher this season, including a pair of 9.975s, and has placed in the Top 3 on floor in every meet, with six event titles. She has competed on three events in every meet, hitting 33 for 33 routines. Moors has posted career-high marks on all three events this season, earning 9.900s on vault and balance beam and 9.975 on floor exercise.

Malabuyo has been ranked in the Top 10 nationally on balance beam all season and is the Big Ten leader with a NQS of 9.925 and a season average of 9.902. She has scored 9.900 or higher in nine of 11 meets this season, with a high of 9.975, and has a team-best five wins on the event, along with eight Top 3 finishes. Malabuyo has also been strong on floor exercise, ranking in the Top 10 in the conference with a NQS of 9.900 and scoring season-highs of 9.925 twice. The 2024 Philippines Olympian also scored a career-high 9.925 on uneven bars.

McGowan has competed on three events in every meet this season, tying for third on the team in routines competed, and has hit all 33 of her routines. She averages over 9.800 on each of her three events, including 9.852 on floor exercise and 9.841 on uneven bars. McGowan has season-bests of 9.950 on floor exercise and 9.900 on vault and uneven bars and has compiled six scores of 9.900 or higher this year, including four on floor.

Lee, the Bruins' outstanding leadoff performer, earns her first career all-conference nod. The table-setter for the No. 3 balance beam team in the nation, Lee ranks No. 15 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten on the event with a NQS of 9.910. She has scored over 9.900 in the leadoff spot seven times this season and on 58% of her beam routines in her career. She holds a career-high of 9.950 and has scored a season-high 9.925 three times. She has also had success at the leadoff position on vault, averaging 9.817 with a season and career-high of 9.900. She is also averaging 9.825 on floor exercise, with a high of 9.875. Lee has hit all 104 routines in her career without a fall.

Esparza, an uneven bars specialist, ranks No. 8 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big Ten on the event. She holds a NQS of 9.930 and a team-high average of 9.880. Esparza, who was an All-Pac-12 honoree on bars in 2021 as a freshman, leads the Bruins this season with five uneven bars victories. She scored a career-high 9.975 on Feb. 14 and has three scores of 9.950 or higher this year.

Alipio earns her first career all-conference award after ranking in the Top 25 in the nation on balance beam for over a month. She currently stands at No. 3 in the Big Ten on the event with a NQS of 9.900. She has scored 9.850 or better in eight meets this season and 9.900 or higher in five. She has a pair of balance beam victories this season and scored a career-high 9.950 to win the event at Washington on Feb. 7. ย

The All-Big Ten and All-Freshman teams were determined based on the national qualifying scores (NQS) accumulated by student-athletes during the 2025 season. The 12 Sportsmanship Award recipients, one from each conference institution, areย individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These students must be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
