No. 2 UCLA Men's Volleyball Sweeps No. 9 Pepperdine, 3-0

LOS ANGELES – The No. 2 UCLA men's volleyball program swept No. 9 Pepperdine 3-0 on Thursday night in an MPSF match inside Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial.
Cooper Robinson led the way on Thursday for the Bruins (15-3, 5-0 MPSF) with 16 kills, while the Bruins hit .418 as a squad on the night. With the win UCLA improved their winning streak to a season-high nine matches.
Cole Hartke paced Pepperdine (14-5, 6-1 MPSF) with 13 kills, while the squad hit .356 as a team.
The Bruins and Pepperdine traded points to begin the match, as the Bruins largest advantage in the opening stages was two points at 11-9, and 13-11 courtesy of a Ido David ace.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, the Waves went on a run of their own, and took an 18-14 lead before Cooper Robinson got one back for the Bruins with his third kill of the set, making it 18-15.
UCLA chipped away at the lead throughout the set and eventually tied it at 21-21 before taking the set 25-22 and earning a 1-0 lead heading into the second set.
Pepperdine raced out to a 7-3 lead to begin the second set, before the Bruins came roaring back.
UCLA used a 3-0 run to take a 9-8 lead, as David and Sean Kelly both tallied an ace to hep the Bruins put themselves in front.
The two sides continued to trade points as the Bruins took a 20-18 lead into the final stretch of the set. With Robinson at the service line, the Bruins put pressure on the Waves, and forced an attack error from Pepperdine to take a 21-18 lead.
As for the third set, UCLA raced out to a 5-1 lead courtesy of Robinson at the service line. The redshirt junior tallied his third ace of the night to put the Bruins up 4-1.
Edwards and Robinson racked up kills to push UCLA in front 11-5 midway through the set, and continued to pace the Bruins throughout the set. A Thorne kill of an Andrew Rowan set pushed UCLA in front by five, 16-11.
A few points later Robinson put UCLA up 23-18 with his 15th kill of the night before the Bruins finished off Pepperdine 25-22 off a Sean Kelly kill.
