April 22, 2025 | Women's Tennis

ROSEMONT, Ill. โ€“ Kimmi Hance of the UCLA women's tennis team was named Big Ten Player of the Week by the conference Tuesday, two days after she was honored for her contributions to the program on Senior Day. She led the Bruins to a 3-0 week, winning all six of her matches played.

Hance posted a 3-0 singles record and a 3-0 doubles mark in the final regular-season contests, as the Bruins beat Rutgers (5-0 โ€“ April 19), Maryland (4-0 โ€“ April 18) and No. 16 USC (4-2 โ€“ April 16) at Los Angeles Tennis Center. UCLA enters play at the Big Ten Women's Tennis Tournament on an eight-match winning streak.

Hance took down No. 58 Emma Charney of USC by a 6-4, 6-2 score on Court 2, extending her team's lead to 3-1. The all-senior combination of Hance and Elise Wagle earlier prevailed 6-4 over the 10th-ranked Trojan tandem of Lily Fairclough and Grace Piper to help the Bruins claim the doubles point. Hance went 8-0 in home regular-season matches against USC during her career.

The Torrance, Calif. native also handed Maryland's Ema Kovacevic a 6-1, 6-3 defeat before moving up to Court 1 for a 6-1, 6-0 victory opposite Rutgers' Mai Nguyen. Each result gave UCLA a 2-0 lead. Hance/Wagle also clinched doubles points with triumphs over Nguyen/Naomi Karki of Rutgers (7-5) and Kovacevic/Diya Challa of Maryland (6-4).

The Bruins earned 11 weekly awards from the Big Ten in their first season as a member. In addition to Hance's Player of the Week selection, Fakih and Lutkemeyer were each recognized twice and Wagle picked up another. Fakih also piled up five Freshman of the Week honors.
