Men's Tennis Beats Michigan to Claim Big Ten Semifinals Spot

COLUMBUS, Ohio โ The second-seeded UCLA men's tennis team earned a win in its first-ever Big Ten Men's Tennis Tournament appearance Friday, beating No. 7 seed Michigan 4-1 at Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
Giacomo Revelli prevailed in clinching fashion, completing a two-win day personally. The Bruins (14-8) also got singles victories from Kaylan Bigun and Spencer Johnson after securing the doubles point. Bjorn Swenson won for the Wolverines (15-12).
UCLA advances to face No. 3 seed Michigan State or No. 6 seed USC in Saturday's second semifinal match (11 a.m. PT). B1G+ will provide coverage of the contest.
The Bruins controlled doubles play, with Gianluca Ballotta/Emon van Loben Sels setting the tone on Court 3. The pair downed Alex Cairo/Nicholas Steiglehner 6-2. The decider then came on Court 1, where Revelli/Alexander Hoogmartens topped Will Cooksey/Patorn Hanchaikul 6-3.
UCLA took four singles first sets. No. 32 Johnson raced to his first victory since Jan. 26, dealing Cairo a 6-1, 6-1 defeat on Court 5.
Bigun's fourth win in a row came opposite Hanchaikul on Court 3. The freshman's latest victory came by a 6-3, 6-1 margin and put the Bruins a point shy of the necessary fourth.
Michigan cut into its deficit when Swenson triumphed 6-4, 6-4 over No. 110 van Loben Sels on Court 2. That proved the closest the Wolverines would get, though, as Revelli knocked off Mert Oral 6-4, 6-3 on Court 6. The clincher marked Revelli's second of the campaign.
