February 07, 2026 | Men's Tennis
MALIBU, Calif. โ The 15th-ranked UCLA men's tennis team prevailed again in an exciting finish on the road, outlasting No. 24 Pepperdine 4-2 at Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. Rudy Quan provided the clinching victory.
Quan also helped secure the deciding doubles win to give the Bruins (4-2) a lead they would never relinquish. Cassius Chinlund and Spencer Johnson were also victorious in singles play. Gustavo Ribeiro de Almeida and Aleksa Pisaric briefly pulled the Waves (5-3) into a tie, but Johnson and Quan made the difference in three-set results.
Pepperdine struck first in doubles play on Court 1, where Pisaric and Lasse Poertner bested Johnson and Aadarsh Tripathi 6-3. Elevated to Court 2 for the first time as a pair, UCLA's Gianluca Ballotta and Emon van Loben Sels answered by dealing Edward Winter and Hugh Winter a 6-2 defeat.
Bruin freshman Bengt Reinhard made his dual doubles debut alongside Quan on Court 3 and the first-time tandem delivered in a pivotal moment. Going shot for shot opposite Ribeiro de Almeida and Maxi Homberg, Quan/Reinhard came out on top of a 7-6(7) decision.
Each side collected three initial sets in singles play and the bottom courts were first to finish. Chinlund picked up his fourth win in five dual tries and did so in a convincing manner, topping David Fix 6-1, 6-2 on Court 6. The Waves responded behind Ribeiro de Almeida and No. 124 Pisaric, who bested Tripathi (7-5, 6-4) and Andy Nguyen (6-1, 7-5) on Courts 5 and 4, respectively.
