UCLA Men Win Black Division Race to Highlight 2025 Gans Creek Classic

COLUMBIA, Mo. โ The UCLA cross country team participated in its first multi-team race of the season on Friday at the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Missouri, with the men winning the 8k black division and the women coming in 28th in the top-flight 6k gold division.
The Bruin men finished with 86 points as a team, the only squad in the black division to finish under triple digits. UCLA's top-four all placed within the top-25 among scoring runners.
The Bruins were led by redshirt sophomore Kai Mitchell-Reiss, who finished the race in 23:53.5 to place 10th overall. Redshirt freshman Everett Capelle (23:55.7) and junior Henry Coughlan (23:57.6) weren't far behind to place 15-16. Redshirt freshman Jack Falkowski (24:21.5) was next up in 41st place, and junior Tristan Amell (24:27.5) rounded out UCLA's scorers in 56th place overall.
UCLA was proceeded in the black division by Ohio State (112), Illinois-Chicago (122), Iowa Western CC (137), and Kansas (178). The men's gold race saw a top-three of Iowa State (47), Virginia (107), and Colorado (126).
Over on the women's side, UCLA was paced by sophomore Olivia Foody's 20:50.5, which was good for No. 99 overall. Sophomore Ailish Hawkins (20:59.4) was also able to beat the 21-minute mark. UCLA's scoring contingent was rounded out by senior Annika Salz (21:22.6), freshman Sophia Malinoski (21:24.4), and freshman Evie Marheineke (21:32.4). Florida won the women's gold race with 102 points, followed by Northern Arizona (126) and Colorado (166).
UCLA is next in action on Oct. 10 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by Oregon in Eugene, Ore.
