UCLA Shuts Out Portland, 2-0
September 04, 2025 | Women's Soccer
Portland, Ore. - No. 18 UCLA recorded its third shutout of the season to defeat Portland on the road, 2-0. Seniors Lily Boyden and Emma Egizii scored for the Bruins.ย
Boyden put UCLA ahead in the 16th minute, using fancy footwork to maintain possession amidst traffic in the box and then finishing strong with a right-footed shot to the far post. The goal was her first of the season and the first by the Bruins in the first half this year.
Bruin defender Jennie Immethun made a big save on the line in the 38th minute after a corner kick, knocking away a header by Aliyah Dockter that appeared headed for goal. Just a few minutes later, Immethun was again there to clear out a dangerous header by Portland in front of goal.ย
Trailing 1-0 at halftime, Portland made a push to equalize immediately at the start of the half. Violet Mademacher sent a shot into the box just 36 seconds into the half, but UCLA freshman goalkeeper Daphne Nakfoor was there to make a big kick save. Nakfoor made another save in the 61st minute on a low shot by Dockter.ย
Egizii was dangerous throughout the game, and her effort was finally rewarded in the 71st minute, scoring her first goal of the year. After taking a pass from America Frias, Egizii made a run up the middle in the box, evading a defender and shooting quickly with her right foot into the right corner.ย
UCLA (3-2) nearly made it 3-0 after Lexi Wright was taken down in the box in the 73rd minute, but Hills made a diving save on Frias' penalty kick.
The Bruin defense held Portland (1-2-2) to just three shots in the game. Two were saved by Nakfoor, the other by Immethun. Nakfoor recorded the shutout, her second solo shutout of the year.
UCLA will next host No. 1 Stanford on Sunday, Sept. 7. The match will take place at Wallis Annenberg Stadium at 1pm. Tickets can be purchased at uclabruins.com/tickets.
