No. 1 UCLA Records Another Pair of Sweeps at East Meets West Invitational

Manhattan Beach, Calif. - No. 1 UCLA (15-2) swept both matches at the East Meets West Invitational on Saturday, defeating No. 5 Texas and FIU by identical scores of 5-0.ย
The Bruins beat Texas in their first match thanks to two comeback wins by Kaley Mathews and Ensley Alden on court 2 and Ava Williamson and Jesse Dueck on court 4. Mathews and Alden came back to beat Anna Pavelkova and Kacka Pavelkova, 13-21, 21-16, 20-18, after dropping the first set, and Williamson and Dueck staved off match point on multiple occasions in the third to beat Texas' Chloe Charles and Macey Butler, 21-19, 21-23, 17-5. Kenzie Brower and Mallory LaBreche made quick work out of Ava Patton and Vivian Johnson on court 5, 21-15, 21-13 to clinch the win. Sally Perez and Maggie Boyd beat Texas's No. 1 pair, 21-19, 21-13, and Alexa Fernandez and Harper Cooper closed it out with a 21-17, 21-13 win on court 3 over Emma Grace Roberton/Lily Davis.
In the second match, UCLA breezed past FIU with clean sweeps on all five courts, holding the Panthers to under 15 points on eight of the 10 sets. LaBreche and Taylor Ford won the first match on court 4, 21-14, 21-11, followed by Mathews and Alden winning on court 2, 21-14, 21-11. Williamson and Fernandez clinched the match with a 21-15, 21-14 victory on court 3. Perez and Boyd took home a 21-16, 21-12 win on court 1 to extend their win streak to 13, and Cassie Dodd and Adelina Okazaki won their match on court 5, 21-13, 21-17. ย
