Women’s Rowing Wins Novice 8+ at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO – The Bruins wrap a competitive weekend in southern California with a strong finish in the Novice 8+ race, coming in first at the 2026 San Diego Crew Classic.

UCLA claimed its lane assignments after day one Saturday; the first and second varsity 8+ shells placed second in their heats to qualify for grand finals Sunday. The rest of UCLA's fleet stayed steady in the middle of the pack, placing fourth or fifth in every other preliminary round at the San Diego regatta.

The Bruins' continued the competition on Sunday, starting the day with the 1V8+ team placing fourth in the Jessop-Whittier Cup/Cal Cup Collegiate Invitational. The day continued with UCLA's 1V4+ in the Karen Plumleigh Courtney Cup and 2V8+ competing for the Jackie Ann Sitt Hungness Trophy, both teams placing fourth.

UCLA's Novice 8+ finished first in the Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy race. Their final time was 7:26.050, placing them two seconds ahead of USC.

In the Open 8+ Carley Copley Cup, the Bruins' finished in fifth place, with a time of 7:25.141. UCLA ended the day with a strong fight in the Women's Collegiate B4+ Final. The Bruins' 2V4+ finished in fourth place with a time of 8:01.064. The 3V4+ team was right behind them in fifth place, completing their race in 8:04.758.
