Deontrae Cooper enters his first season as director of college personnel for the UCLA football program in 2026.

Cooper joins head coach Bob Chesneyโs staff after serving as director of scouting for two seasons at Arizona State from 2024-25.

In total, Cooper brings 10 years of collegiate experience with him as a coach and scouting/personnel staffer. Prior to his stop at ASU, he had two-year stints at Boise State (2022-23), Colorado (2020-21), and UC Davis (2018-19). He started his career with graduate assistant positions at West Texas A&M (2017) and CSU Pueblo (2016), his alma mater.

Most recently, Cooper served as director of scouting at Arizona State from 2024-25. ASU went 19-8 (.704 winning percentage) and made a pair of bowls in his two seasons on staff, including a CFP berth in 2024 that saw the Sun Devils battle Texas in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

Cooper helped Boise State to an 18-10 (.643) record over his two seasons as coordinator of recruiting relations and player personnel, making a bowl game both years. That included a trip to SoFi Stadium in 2023 as the Broncos battled UCLA in the LA Bowl. On the recruiting side, Boise State imported the top recruit class in the Mountain West Conference in both of his seasons on staff.

His first full-time personnel position came as a senior assistant at Colorado from 2020-21. His two years with the Buffaloes included a 4-2 campaign during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign.

As a student-athlete, Cooper was a four-year letterwinner at CSU Pueblo from 2010-15, winning a Division II National Championship with the ThunderWolves in 2014. He totaled 539 yards and four touchdowns over 35 career games, including a career-long 75-yard catch as a senior in 2015. After completing his eligibility, Cooper spent the 2016 preseason with the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers.

A native of Riverside, Calif.,ย Cooper earned his B.A. in mass communications/media studies from Colorado State Pueblo in 2015, and added a masterโs degree in educational/instructional technology from West Texas A&M in 2018.
