Baseball Rallies Past San Diego, 11-9

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UCLA Bruins (17-11) came back from a 7-1 deficit through four innings to hand the University of San Diego Toreros (17-16-1) an 11-9 loss in 10 innings.
The Bruins scored 3 runs with two outs in the 10th off of Torero loser Mike Oseguera (0-2) -- UCLA's Forrest Johnson's liner to center field was dropped by Tony Perez with Chase Utley and Charles Merricks both scoring on the play. Nick Lyon's double knocked in Johnson for the third run of the inning. The Toreros scored 1 run in the 10th and had runners on second and third before Bruin Jon Brandt (4-4) got Mike Oseguera to fly out to left field to end the game.
San Diego jumped out to a 7-1 lead through four innings on the strength of two-run homers by Alan Leuthard in the 2nd inning and Kevin Reese in the 4th, and a 2-run double by Josh Harris in the 4th. UCLA came back to score 3 runs in the 5th, 1 run in the 6th and 3 runs in the 7th to take an 8-7 lead. Kevin Reese's second home run of the day, a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the 8th, sent the game into extra innings.
The loss was USD's fifth straight and second straight extra-inning loss -- the Toreros lost 7-2 to Pepperdine in 10 innings in their last outing. For the game, USD was paced by Kevin Reese (4-for-5, 2 runs, 4 RBI) who belted two homers, a double and single, Josh Harris (3-for-6, 3 runs, 2 RBI), and Alan Leuthard (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI).
UCLA, which scored 11 runs on just 7 hits against seven Torero pitchers, was paced by Charles Merricks (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Nick Lyon (1-for-4, 2 RBI). Six of the Bruins runs were unearned against the USD pitching staff. The win was UCLA's eighth straight against the Toreros dating back to the 1995 season. UCLA has now won ten of their last eleven games.
