The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team defeated Lewis University Wednesday night in a non-conference match in Pauley Pavilion.
The Bruins won 30-18, 30-27, 30-25 in 77 minutes before 452 fans. The victory raised UCLA's record to 14-3 overall. Lewis fell to 8-9 on the season.
UCLA freshman Steve Klosterman pounded 19 kills (.364) and added three block assists to lead all players with 20.5 points. Junior Paul Johnson contributed 10 kills (.556), four block assists and an ace for 13 points. Sophomore Beau Peters started in place of Dennis Gonzalez, who was given the night off, and he recorded 43 set assists, four total blocks, four digs and an ace. Senior Libero Adam Shrader led all players with seven digs.
The Bruins led in team statistics: 9.5-7.5 in blocking, 4-1 in aces and .357 to .138 in attack percentage.
Fabiano Barreto led the Flyers with 15 kills, but was held to a .179 attack percentage.
UCLA will host two conference matches this week: Pacific on Fri., Mar. 5 and Stanford on Sat., Mar. 6. Both matches start at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion. Saturday's match is the 27th Annual Kilgour Cup. Friday's match features a team card giveaway and autograph session.
