LOS ANGELES - On the heels of its showdown with fifth-ranked USC this Friday, the No. 11-ranked UCLA women's tennis team posted a convincing 7-0 decision over Loyola Marymount in the season opener for both teams Wednesday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.

The Bruins cruised in doubles play, winning on all three courts to claim an early 1-0 advantage in the match.

Daniela Bercek and Alex McGoodwin, UCLA's two freshmen standouts, set the tone in singles play with a pair of perfect performances. Bercek defeated LMU's Patrycia Hubl 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 2 position, while McGoodwin knocked off Serena Fermin by the same score at No. 4 singles. In addition, Bruin junior Sarah Gregg was near perfect, as she defeated LMU's Kimi Kaloi, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot.

Both Jackie Carleton and Feriel Esseghir also won in straight sets. Carleton, ranked No. 17 nationally, was down 4-2 in the second set of her match against Carla Arguelles at No. 1 singles. She eventually came back to win, 6-3, 6-4. Esseghir defeated Robyn Baker, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot.

Bruin sophomore Laura Gordon capped things off for UCLA at the No. 6 position, defeating Tamara Tanner, 6-1, 6-0.
