
Bruins Upset by Long Beach State

The top-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team was upset in three games by visiting Long Beach State Wednesday night in a key MPSF match for both teams.
The 49ers won 30-19, 30-28, 30-25 in front of 762 fans in Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins fell to 10-2 overall, 5-2 in league play. The 49ers improved to 10-3 overall, 5-3 in conference play.
Freshman opposite Steve Klosterman led the Bruins with 18 kills, four total blocks and an ace. Senior Chris Pena added 10 kills (.529) and three block assists. Juniors Kris Kaushaar and Jonathan Acosta each contributed seven kills. For Acosta, it was his first appearance of the season since undergoing the removal of his appendix on Jan. 6.
For Long Beach State, veterans Jeff Wootten, Scott Touzinsky and Nathan Hagstrom combined for 38 kills in an attack that hit .394 and limited the Bruins to a hitting percentage of .298. The 49ers also out-blocked the Bruins, 12.0-7.0.
The Bruins will continue their homestand on Fri., Feb. 13 with another conference match against No. 14 UC San Diego. Match time is 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
