
UCLA Falls in Four at BYU

Top-ranked UCLA fell 3-1 in MPSF men's volleyball action Friday night at BYU's Smith Fieldhouse.
BYU won 31-29, 30-22, 30-27, 28-30. The loss dropped UCLA to 7-1 overall and 3-1 in league play. BYU raised its record to 6-2 overall 2-1 in MPSF action.
The Bruins could not overcome a slow start in which they hit .179 in Game 1 and .143 in Game 2. They managed just nine kills in the first game.
UCLA warmed up in Game 3, hitting .278 and recording 19 kills. The Bruins limited the Cougars to a .171 attack average.
Senior Jonathan Acosta led the Bruins with 13 kills and two blocks, followed by Paul Johnson's 11 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Paul George came off the bench and slammed a career-high of 10 kills.
Senior Michael Burke dominated the net for BYU, recording 10 total blocks and 13 kills. Taylor Evans led the Cougars with 17 kills.
The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow night with a 7 p.m. (MST) match in the same venue.
