For the third straight year, the UCLA men's volleyball team advanced to the championship match of the annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Classic in Santa Barbara.
The top-seeded Bruins swept both preliminary matches on Friday to secure a spot in the championship match against No. 2 seed Cal State Northridge, which defeated USC and Stanford on its way to the final.
In their first match UCLA defeated UC Irvine 30-21, 30-23, 30-22, while Long beach State beat UC Santa Barbara 3-0.
In the lower half of the bracket in the first round, Stanford beat Pacific and Cal State Northridge swept USC.
The Bruins won their semifinal match against the 49ers 3-0, exacting revenge on a team that beat them three times last season.
The Bruins won 30-23, 30-24, 30-26 in 84 minutes. The victory raised UCLA's record to 2-0 overall. The Bruins have not lost in eight matches since the start of the preseason in October. The Beach fell to 1-1.
Senior quick hitter Allan Vince paced UCLA with 15 kills, followed by 10 kills apiece from Paul Johnson, Jonathan Acosta and Steve Klosterman.
