
Bruins Win UCSB Tournament

For the second straight year, the UCLA men's volleyball team won the annual UCSB/Elephant Bar Classic in Santa Barbara.
The top-seeded Bruins defeated Cal State Northridge 3-2 to improve their overall record to 3-0. The Matadors fell to 2-1.
The Bruins won 35-37, 30-25, 30-23, 23-30, 17-15 in two hours and 25 minutes in front of 502 spectators.
Senior Jonathan Acosta led all players with 20 kills (.324), followed by 13 from Kris Kraushaar (.300), who added three aces. Senior Paul Johnson recorded 12 kills and eight total blocks and was voted MVP of the tournament. Freshman Tony Ker made nine digs for UCLA. Redshirt freshman setter Gaby Acevedo was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Bruins out-served the Matadors nine aces to three, but were out-blocked 14-12.
UCLA returns to Pauley Pavilion for a four-match homestand beginning with a match against NAIA champion Cal Baptist on Wed., Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. The Bruins host UC Irvine on Sat., Jan. 15 in their first conference match.
