NCAA Softball Super Regional - After Game 3
Game 2 -- #7 UCLA (5) vs #10 Georgia (4)
Game 3 -- #7 UCLA (3) vs. #10 Georgia (2)
Georgia Head Coach Lu Harris-Champer
"I think it was a great night of ball. We would have liked for things to
come out a little bit different, but I'm proud of our team for fighting
hard all night long."
(on her decision to have Green pitch the second game)
"She got us here. She deserved the opportunity to start."
(on being down during the game)
"Sometimes it happens for you and sometimes it doesn't. This team has
been great and coming back from behind all year long. That probably is
the reason that we're here. I thought it might happen tonight, but it didn't."
Georgia Senior Pitcher, Michelle Green
"Overall, it was an awesome opportunity and I hope that the girls who
have another chance, they can do it."
(on her mind set in pitching the second game)
"You just have to leave the game before behind you and go out there.
It's a new ball game. I went out there and things didn't go my way."
(on having to watch the rest of the game from the dugout)
"I believed in her (Griffith) and everyone else out there."
Georgia Sophomore Pitcher, Katie Griffith
(on coming in and having the ball being hit back to her)
"I was excited to be in that situation to get to come in, but I think I
got a little over anxious when the ball came back to me."
(on taking over for Green)
"I was excited to come in and have Green's back because she's had our
back all year."
UCLA Head Coach Sue Enquist
"I'm just extremely proud. I first want to congratulate Georgia for
their incredible level of play. They are tenacious. You got the sense
that they believed they were in the game all the way until the end. I tip
my cap to them, first and foremost."
(about UCLA)
I can't say enough about this team. Their stamina emotionally... To be
able to recover from a rough start, to gain their composure, execute and
trust their plan. It was simply a thrill to be a part of their journey
today and I couldn't be more proud of our leadership with a freshman in
the circle and us getting it done defensively and then clutching it up on
the offensive end.
(on comparing teams from years past who had to come from behind to win)
"All I know is what we are doing right now. What I love about the game,
is that the game doesn't know who is supposed to win. If you have a
group of kids who buy in to `there's enough softball left to get it
done,' and they stuck to their offensive plan, that was so critical for
us. The game rewards you if you play it straight up and you do what
you're supposed to do."
(on her choice of Peterson to pinch-hit)
"She can wear down a pitcher. She can inside out better than anybody
coming out of the dugout. She's one of the hardest working kids on the
team and she loves the opportunity to compete."
UCLA Junior 3B, Andrea Duran
(on comparing Green's pitching between the game last night and the games tonight)
"I think she was exactly the same. I think that we just made adjustments
and we changed our game plan. It gave us a lot of confidence and we came
out swinging."
UCLA Freshman Pitcher, Anjelica Selden
(on feeling about having to come back and win both games tonight)
"I have confidence in my team. I feel that we can pull though in any
situation. I didn't have any doubt about the game. I felt that we all
had a game plan and we were going to buy into it and we did and we did well."
(on Peterson's double)
"It pumped me up. It gives me even more energy to go out there and shut
them down in the next inning."
UCLA Freshman Pinch Hitter, Danielle Peterson
(on being called up to hit for Tara Henry)
"I kinda had this feeling and I was praying that it was going to happen
because I could not wait. I was so excited. I could just feel the
energy out there and I knew that it was my time."
