
Bruins Defeat Tritons in Four Games

Eighth-ranked UCLA ended its final homestand of the season with 3-1 victory over Division II UC San Diego Saturday in the John Wooden Center.
The Bruins won 28-30, 30-21, 30-21, 30-25 in two hours before 252 fans. UCLA's fourth straight victory raised its overall record to 16-12, 8-10 in league play. The Tritons fell to 1-23 overall, 0-18. The victory was UCLA's 42nd in a row against UCSD.
With the exception of Dennis Gonzalez who has been injured, Head Coach Al Scates started his four available seniors -- setter Aaron Dodd, quick hitters David Russell and Nick Scheftic and outside hitter Damien Scott. Dodd recorded 12 set assists and one block assist before his removal in Game 1 and Scott, Scheftic and Russell combined for 38 kills as the Bruins hit .409 and recorded 67 total kills.
Scott led the Bruins with 18 kills (.517), an ace, 11 digs and 19.5 points, followed by junior Paul George, who added 14 kills (.333). Junior Steve Klosterman added 12 kills and 13 points. Scheftic hit for a .550 percentage with a line of 11-0-20 and added five block assists. Freshman setter Matt Wade distributed 39 assists, and recorded three kills (.400), three block assists and an ace and sophomore libero Tony Ker added 16 digs.
The Bruins will be on the road for their final four regular season matches, beginning with an Apr. 7 date at Stanford followed by a match at Pacific on Apr. 8.
