No. 16 Women's Tennis Defeats Arizona, 5-2

LOS ANGELES - The 16th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team completed its sweep of the Arizona schools Saturday, downing No. 30 Arizona, 5-2 in a Pac-10 showdown at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. The Bruins, who defeated No. 13 ASU a day earlier, up their record to 12-2 overall and 4-0 in the Pac-10. With the loss, the Wildcats fall to 10-8 overall and 1-2 in conference action.
UCLA swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play. Once singles began, the Bruins moved out to a 3-0 lead following dominant performances by Ashley Joelson and Anna-Viktoria Lind. Joelson was flawless at court No. 4, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Kasia Jakowlew. Lind was nearly as good, downing Camelia Todorova, 6-1, 6-0 at court No. 6.
Senior Laura Gordon clinched the win for UCLA at court No. 1, registering a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Stephanie Balzert.
With UCLA up 4-0, Arizona won the next two matches to finish, as Danielle Steinberg and Juliette Mavroleon posted wins at court Nos. 2 and 3 respectively. UCLA sophomore Elizabeth Lumpkin capped off the win for the Bruins at court No. 5, downing Tina Razloznik, 6-0, 7-6(6).
UCLA next faces third-ranked USC on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. That match will be at the Marks Tennis Stadium on the campus of USC.
