LOS ANGELES - The 14th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team halted its two-match losing streak Sunday, posting a commanding 7-0 decision over the University of Oregon at the Los Angeles Tennis Center. With the win, the Bruins improve to 13-4 overall and 5-2 in the Pac-10. The Ducks fall to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
UCLA played a near flawless match from the very beginning, taking all three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Sophomore Tracy Lin got things started for the Bruins in singles, posting a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Carmen Seremeta at court No. 3. She was quickly followed by Ashley Joelson, who knocked off Monica Hoz de Vila, 6-1, 6-1 at court No. 5. Riza Zalameda clinched the match for UCLA with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Anna Powaska at court No. 2.
Senior Laura Gordon faced the only ranked singles opponent on the day, as she posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over 30th-ranked Dominika Dieskova at court No. 1. Gordon is currently listed at No. 20 in the Fila/ITA Singles Rankings.
UCLA returns to action next Tuesday, facing No. 4 USC in a non-conference match at the Marks Tennis Stadium beginning at 1:30 p.m.
