Women's Results
The UCLA men's cross country team captured their third team title of the season on Friday evening as they won the Titan Invitational in Fullerton in the final meet before the post-season.
Freshman Joel Ambo led the men's team as the No. 1 finisher as he placed fourth overall in a time of 24:43.6. Fellow frosh Philip MacQuitty was the No. 2 finisher as he was eighth overall in a time of 24:56.0.
Jacob Wood led a Bruin sweep of 10th through 12th-place as he was 10th in a time of 25:00.3. Mohammad Charara was 11th (25:00.3) and Steven Norton was 12th (25:08.6) to round out the Bruin scorers.
UCLA won with 28 points, while Azusa Pacific was second with 51 points.
On the women's side, freshmen Tamara Purpura and Caitlin Schmitt were the top two runners for the team as Purpura was 24th (18:31.4) and Schmitt was 25th (18:37.9). Senior Ashlea McLaughlin, who was running in her first cross country race, was the No. 3 finisher as she placed 47th in a time of 19:17.6. Freshmen Rachel Butler (19:20.0) and Shelby Stegall (19:38.4) rounded out the top five placing 50th and 57th, respectively.
The women finished seventh overall, while Azusa Pacific won the team title. The Bruns will now shift their focus to the post-season as the men and women head to Seattle, WA on October 30th for the Pac-10 Championships.
