
Bruins Fall in Three at Stanford

Third-ranked UCLA was upended by No.5 Stanford in three games in Palo Alto on Friday night.
The Cardinal won 30-24, 30-23, 30-24 in 90 minutes in front of 795 fans at Maples Pavilion. The Bruins fell to 6-6 (5-4). Stanford improved to 6-3 (5-3) and extended its home winning streak to three matches against UCLA. The Bruins suffered their first road loss in four matches.
Sophomore Jack Polales led the Bruins with 16 kills and 16.5 points, followed by eight kills apiece from senior Garrett Muagututia and sophomores Thomas Amberg and Nick Vogel. Senior setter Kevin Ker added 47 assists and junior libero Tom Hastings recorded 12 digs.
For the first time this season, the Bruins did not record an ace and Muagututia failed to register double-digit kills.
Brad Lawson led the Cardinal with 15 kills (.400) and Evan Romero added 10. The match marked the return of Spencer McLachlin, who was sidelined for four matches with an injury. He added six kills (.300).
The Bruins travel to Pacific Saturday night for a 7 p.m. conference match.
