Vince Beringhele, one of the top assistant coaches in the collegiate game, returns for his 15th season as the Bruins' hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator in 2004.

Beringhele has tutored the likes of Troy Glaus, Chase Utley, Eric Valent, Eric Byrnes, Ryan McGuire, Michael Moore, Chris Pritchett, Joel Wolfe, and Paul Ellis, all of whom were drafted in the first five rounds of Major League Baseball's Amateur Draft. Over the last five years, his hitters have posted a .303 batting average and averaged over 78 home runs per season.

Beringhele is primarily responsible for bringing the top high school talent in California to the UCLA baseball program. Beringhele's 1997 signees were judged the No. 1 recruiting class in America by Collegiate Baseball. The 2003 recruiting class was ranked fifth by Baseball America. For six games in 1996 and one game in 2001, Beringhele served as the Bruins' acting head coach in Adams' absence.

Beringhele started in center field for UCLA between 1981 and 1983, batting .337, .338, and .282, respectively. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers after his junior year. Beringhele's 138 career walks is the second-highest total in Bruin history. Beringhele's 46 career stolen bases is tenth-best in school history. His 61 walks in 1982 is fourth on the single-season chart.

Beringhele, who graduated from Loyola High, played in the Los Angeles Dodgers' minor league system for three years. In 1983, he batted .338 at Lethbridge. He tied for the league lead in hits (94) with teammate and former Dodger Jeff Hamilton. In 1984, he batted .256 for the Vero Beach Dodgers, collecting 100 walks in 100 games. Beringhele completed his career in 1985, playing for Vero Beach and Bakersfield.

The former Bruin great spent two seasons, 1988 and 1989, coaching at Cal State Los Angeles prior to joining the UCLA staff in 1990. In addition to his duties at Cal State Los Angeles, Beringhele coached the Santa Monica American Legion team. He also served as an assistant coach at University High School.

Vince has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from UCLA.

Vince and his wife, Trudy, along with their daughter, Betina, currently reside in Culver City.
