Cross Country Shines at Wisconsin Adidas Invitational

MADISON, Wisc. – The UCLA cross country team proved its place among the nation's elite as the men finished seventh overall and the women placed 20th at the prestigious sixth annual Wisconsin Adidas Invitational, Friday morning at the Zimmer Championship Course.

The No. 9 ranked Bruins men's team solidified their top-10 billing as UCLA placed seventh with 236 points. Junior Nick Hartle led the Bruins with a 15th place finish with a time of 24:06 on the 8K course. Hartle was followed by sophomore Jonah Diaz in 33rd place with a time of 24:12.

Sophomore Ferdinand Edman placed 45th with a time of 24:19 while junior Lane Werley followed in 69th at 24:27. Junior Sergey Sushchickh placed 74th with a time of 24:28. Rounding out the UCLA men was freshman Myles Smith in 148th at 25:00 and Sean Davis in 200th with a 25:30.

The women, who entered the meet receiving votes in the top-30 placed 20th overall and were led once again by senior Kelsey Smith. Smith was 61st overall with a time of 20:49 on the 6K course. Fellow senior Bronte Golick followed in 91st place with a time of 21:08.

Senior Annie Mooney was 102nd with a time of 21:13 while classmate Meghan Marvin was 128th with a 21:32. Sophomore Aliya Shirif finished in 147th with a 21:39 while Roni Yamane (158th, 21:43) and Emily Scharmann (176th, 21:52) rounded out the top seven for the Bruins.

The Bruins will return to the trail on Friday, Oct. 24 to compete at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. The race will serve as a tune-up for the Pac-12 Championship as the meet looms the next weekend on Oct. 31 at Oakland.
