No. 4 Women's Tennis Downs No. 17 TCU, 4-1
February 14, 2015 | Women's Tennis
The Bruins weren't the only ones with injury issues on Saturday, as the Horned Frogs (4-4) needed to forfeit No. 3 doubles due to not having six healthy players. That meant that UCLA only needed to win one doubles match to pull off the doubles point and the Bruins got it at court No. 1, where second-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips downed Seda Arantekin and Stefanie Tan, 6-3.
UCLA (6-1) then moved out to a 2-0 lead when McPhillips' opponent, Simona Parajova, retired trailing 1-3 in the first set at court No. 2. Bruin freshman Terri Fleming then made the score 3-0 when she downed Arantekin, 6-1, 6-2 at court No. 5.
Down 0-3, TCU was able to avoid the shutout when Alexis Pereira posted a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kelly Shaffer at the No. 6 spot.
UCLA, however, was up a set at the remaining three positions, eventually closing out the match when ninth-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen downed the 76th-ranked Tan, 6-4, 6-0 at court No. 1.
UCLA hits the road next week to take on Saint Mary's on Friday and Cal in Berkeley on Saturday.
