Fourth-Ranked Bruins Defeat Saint Mary's, 6-1

After taking the doubles point with wins at court Nos. 1 and 3, UCLA (7-1) then went on to post victories at five of six singles courts. The only match decided in straight sets on the afternoon came at court No. 5, where freshman Terri Fleming was a 6-3, 6-3 winner over Kareena Manji. Other singles winners for the Bruins on the day were ninth-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen (court No. 1), No. 31 Kyle McPhillips (court No. 2), Catherine Harrison (court No. 4) and Kristin Wiley (court No. 6).
The Gael's lone win of the day came at the No. 3 spot, where Jamie Pawid upset 101st-ranked Kaitlin Ray, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
UCLA returns to action tomorrow, traveling to Berkeley to take on No. 5 Cal at 1:00 p.m.
