UCLA (5-1) had appeared in the Indoor final in each of the previous three years, winning it all in 2012. Unfortunately, a shorthanded UCLA squad was upset by No. 9 Georgia in the quarterfinals on Saturday, ending the team's impressive Indoor run. The Bruins were able to shake off Saturday's disappointment to post the team's fifth shutout in six matches against the Hurricanes.
Top-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips picked up a huge win for the team in doubles on Sunday, taking a tiebreaker over eight-ranked Stephanie Wagner and Lina Lileikite to clinch the doubles point for UCLA. The Bruins' other doubles win came at court No. 3, where Chanelle Van Nguyen and Kristin Wiley were able to beat 37th-ranked Sinead Lohan and Wendy Zhang, 6-4.
All three of UCLA's wins in singles came in straight sets, however the most impressive victory came at court No. 1, where second-ranked Robin Anderson was able to cruise over Wagner, who is ranked seventh nationally, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Kaitlin Ray, the nation's 79th-ranked player, and McPhillips then followed suit, winning at court Nos. 5 and 3, respectively to give the Bruins the 4-0 win.
UCLA does not have another match until Feb. 14 when it hosts TCU at the Los Angeles Tennis Center beginning at 1:00 p.m.
