Oregon started Saturday's match with a bang, pulling off a huge upset at No. 2 doubles, where unranked Marlou Kluving and Nicole Long managed to upset top-ranked Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips, 8-5. UCLA wasn't fazed, however, storming back to win the next two matches and ultimately take a 1-0 lead heading into singles action.
Straight-set wins by Terri Fleming (court No. 6) and top-ranked Robin Anderson (court No. 1) quickly put the Bruins ahead 3-1 in the match. The Ducks got a point early when Bruin sophomore Jennifer Brady was forced to retire in the second set of her match against Alyssa Tobita at court No. 2.
Oregon would actually cut the lead to 3-2 when Long upset 13th-ranked Chanelle Van Nguyen, 7-5, 6-1 at court No. 3. It was as close as the Ducks would come, however, as the Bruins received wins Harrison (court No. 4) and Kristin Wiley (court No. 5) to close out the 5-2 victory.
Next up for the Bruins is a trip to the desert to take on ASU and Arizona next Friday and Saturday.
