UCLA (16-3; 6-1 Pac-12) started Saturday's contest with a strong performance in doubles play, as a pair of 8-3 victories at court Nos. 2 and 3 quickly clinched the point for the Bruins. Arizona was able to notch at upset at court No. 1, however the point had already been decided by that point.
The Bruins then went on to win five of six singles matches in straight sets, with the top two singles positions featuring battles between ranked opponents. UCLA's Robin Anderson, the top ranked player in America, downed 80th-ranked Lauren Marker, 6-3, 6-2 at court No. 1. Bruin sophomore Jennifer Brady, who is ranked No. 46 nationally, also picked up a win next door at court No. 2, beating 114th-ranked Briar Preston, 6-3, 6-2.
Other straight-set winners for UCLA were Chanelle Van Nguyen (court No. 3), Catherine Harrison (court No. 6) and Kristin Wiley (court No. 6). Junior Kyle McPhillips was also a winner, prevailing over Devin Chypyha in a 10-point tiebreaker in place of a third set at court No. 4.
UCLA has now won five in a row and nine of its last 10 matches. Next up is a home match with Colorado on Friday, April 10 at 11:30 a.m.
