Bruins Advance to Indoor Qualifier

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The No. 9 UCLA women's tennis team blanked No. 70 UC Irvine in the Bruins' season opener on Friday afternoon. ?With the win, the Bruins advance to Saturday's Indoor Qualifier match against No. 54 Fresno State.
UCLA quickly registered a pair of wins in doubles as freshman Alaina Miller and sophomore Kristin Wiley dispatched their UC Irvine opponents, 6-0. ?Shortly after, the dynamic duo of Catherine Harrison and Kyle McPhillips clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win.
The Bruins made quick work of the Anteaters in singles as well, taking the first set on five courts. McPhillips and newcomer Laura Luca posted straight set wins, giving UCLA a 3-0 lead. Wiley sealed the deal for the Bruins, downing UCI's Vivien Dvali, 6-2, 6-2.
In Friday's morning match, No. 54 Fresno State toppled No. 34 Arkansas, 4-1. ?Fresno State will face UCLA in the Indoor Qualifier on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., followed by the consolation match between Arkansas and UC Irvine at 6:00 p.m.

Action begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday when No. 42 Georgia Tech battles No. 62 New Mexico.? Fresh off a 7-0 shutout in its season opener against USF on Wednesday, the No. 12 UCLA men's tennis team will face No. 46 SMU at 12:00 p.m.? Saturday's winners will square off at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, with the victor advancing to the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships.? The losing teams will play in the consolation match Sunday morning at 10:00.? ??
