
UCLA Starts Fast at MPSF Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. – The UCLA track and field team closed out the first day of action at the MPSF Championships on Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Facility on the campus of the University of Washington.
The day was highlighted by several personal bests, event scorers and qualifying marks for tomorrow's finals.
In her first career collegiate championship freshman Greta Wagner placed second in the pole vault with a personal best of 13-7.75. The mark moves her into sole possession of the 10th best vault in school history.
Sophomore Misana Viltz won his heat and advanced to the finals in the 60m hurdles with a personal best time of 7.94. Sophomore Leon Powell will also move on in his event as he equaled his season best in the 60m with a time of 6.70. Sophomore Jessie Maduka ran a personal best in the 60m with a time of 7.53.
UCLA is in great position in the heptathlon as Steele Wasik leads the competition with 3,257 points while Zack Bornstein follows in ninth with 2,898 points. Both posted personal bests in the shot put and Wasik opened the competition with a personal best in the 60m.
In the long jump Austin Hazel leaped to a personal best of 24-5.75 to place third overall while Maduka leaped 20-3.75 to place second in the women's competition.
The men's DMR closed out day one with a fifth place finish at 9:50.11. The women placed sixth with a time of 11:27.26.
The final day of action will begin on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. with the heptathlon 60m hurdles, the women's shot put and the women's high jump.
