No. 25 UCLA Defeats LMU to Open Season

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 25 UCLA women's tennis team defeated Loyola Marymount Saturday, 5-2. After rain postponed the match, previously scheduled for Friday at Riviera Country Club, the Bruins officially opened their season with a win at LMU Tennis Center.
UCLA stormed out of the gates in doubles, as the Bruin team of Kristin Wiley and Gabby Andrews blanked Lions Anna Romeka and Siobhan Anderson, 6-0. Ena Shibahara and Jada Hart then made their Bruin dual match debuts with a convincing 6-2 decision.
With the doubles point already in the books, three Bruins won in straight sets to clinch victory. Alaina Miller was the first to finish, as she defeated Romeka 6-2, 6-2. Kristin Wiley then took down LMU's Micheline Aubuchon, 6-3, 6-2, to give Shibahara the chance to clinch the win for UCLA. A 6-2, 6-4 decision vs. Jessica Perez later, the Bruins had recorded the first dual match win of 2017.
After dropping the first set to the Lions' Elvira Juravliova, UCLA's Terri Fleming powered back for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 finish. Following a strong first set, Andrews fell to Camila Tumosa, 6-2, 1-6, 3-6. Then to wrap up the day, Hart and Anderson battled, with the Lions picking up the point, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.
The Bruins will look to build on their opening win when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the ITA National Indoors Qualifying Tournament. UCLA will first take on No. 20 Kentucky on Jan. 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT.
