Bruins Weather Storm, Defeat Trojans, 4-3

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Despite a weather delay that lasted nearly four hours, the No. 20 UCLA women's tennis team defeated rival No. 22 USC, 4-3, in a non-conference match at Marks Stadium. The Bruins secured victory at 4-1, before the remaining two singles matches were played out.
In a pairing of two top-15 doubles teams, Ena Shibahara and Jada Hart were up to the challenge, as the 12th-ranked duo defeated No. 14 Zoë Katz and Madison Westby of USC on Court 1, 6-0. Then, for the second time this season, Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller recorded the clinching point on Court 2, as they defeated Jessica Failla and Gabby Smith, 6-2.
With a lead to work with, No. 3 Shibahara recorded her sixth straight-set win in as many dual-match decisions with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over No. 62 Katz. Then, on Court 5, Gabby Andrews tallied her third consecutive win in singles play, a 6-3, 6-3 decision over No. 82 Westby on Court 5. The Trojans chipped away at the Bruin lead on Court 3, as No. 61 Failla knocked off the Bruins Miller, 7-5, 6-2, to cut their deficit to 3-1.
Despite a first-set loss on Court 4, No. 91 Hart rallied against the Trojans' Rianna Valdes to secure a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win and the overall victory for the Bruins. The teams went on to complete each of the remaining singles matches, as the Trojans earned points from No. 25 Gabby Smith (6-2, 4-6, 6-4 over Terri Fleming on Court 2) and Angela Kulikov (4-6, 6-3, 6-3 over Kristin Wiley on Court 6).
Next up for UCLA is a trip to Berkeley, where it will face No. 9 California at Hellman Tennis Complex in another non-conference match on Feb. 24. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m. (PT) and be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
