No. 20 UCLA Sweeps Doubleheader Over SMC, UCSB

LOS ANGELES -- The No. 20 UCLA women's tennis team finally opened its home schedule Saturday, as it defeated Saint Mary's, 5-0, and UC Santa Barbara, 4-0, in a doubleheader at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts. The match versus UCSB, previously scheduled for Friday, was postponed until Saturday due to rain.
In the opener, UCLA (4-1) made quick work of Saint Mary's (0-2) in doubles play, as the Bruins' ninth-ranked duo of Ena Shibahara and Jada Hart defeated Jana McCord and Parminder Kaur, 6-2. Terri Fleming and Alaina Miller clinched the doubles point shortly thereafter with a 6-1 decision over the Gaels' Clementine Clement and Emma Critser.
With a point already on the board, four Bruins picked up straight-set wins to clinch the match. On Court 4, Alaina Miller defeated the Gaels' Danielle McIntyre, 6-0, 6-2. Reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week Hart matched Miller with a 6-0, 6-2 win of her own over Kareena Manji, while Gabby Andrews posted the clinching point over Parminder Kaur, 7-5, 6-1. Shibahara added another point for good measure, with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jana McCord, to finish the opener with a 5-0 score.
In the rescheduled match versus UCSB (0-4), Shibahara and Hart picked up their second doubles win of the day, a 6-2 victory over the Gauchos' Stafani Stojic and Palina Dubavets. UC Santa Barbara's No. 33 duo of Melissa Baker and Stephanie Yamada defeated Fleming and Miller, 6-3, to put the doubles decision on Court 3. There, Andrews and Kristin Wiley clinched the point with a 6-4 win over UC Santa Barbara's Jaimee Gilbertson and Natalie Da Silveira.
Hart rushed Stojic off Court 4 in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, to get things started in singles play. Fleming followed with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Natalie Da Silveira of the Gauchos, and Shibahara picked up her first clincher of the day, a 6-4, 6-3 win over Palina Dubavets on Court 1. On the day, Shibahara and Hart each posted four wins.
Next up for the Bruins is a home match versus Pepperdine, scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
