No. 20 Bruins Down USD in Road Clash, 5-2

SAN DIEGO -- The No. 20 UCLA Bruins defeated the San Diego Toreros, 5-2, in a road match Sunday at the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. Sophomore Gabby Andrews had a hand in both clinching points, as the teams played out the match after the Bruins clinched the overall win at 4-2.
The 12th-ranked duo of Jada Hart and Ena Shibahara got things started on Court 1 for the Bruins, as it defeated USD's Colomba DiFilippo and Daniela Morales, 6-2. Then, making their debut as a pair, Terri Fleming and Gabby Andrews clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win over the Toreros' Nicole Anderson and Maria-Paula Torres.
Trailing 0-3, No. 87 Jada Hart of UCLA (5-1) retired to give USD's Torres the win and even the overall tally at one. Kristin Wiley quickly responded with a straight-set win, 6-1, 6-3, over USD's Sabrina Barkdull on Court 6. Reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week Shibahara followed Wiley's lead with a straight-set win of her own, 6-2, 6-4, over the Toreros' Anderson on Court 1. USD (2-4) did not go quietly, though, as Court 3 saw Kati Kukaras defeat UCLA's Terri Fleming, 6-3, 6-3, to cut the Bruin advantage to 3-2.
Andrews and the Bruins would not let the Toreros even the score, as the sophomore went on to pick up her second clinching point in as many weekends, with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Sophia Chow on Court 5. The teams played out the matchup on Court 2, where UCLA's Alaina Miller fought through two tiebreakers before she claimed victory over the Toreros' Daniela Morales, 7-6(5), 3-6, 7-6(5).
Next up for the Bruins is a return home, where they will host Pepperdine on Friday, Feb. 17. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m., PT at Sunset Canyon Tennis Courts.
