No. 22 Bruins Tame Wildcats in Tucson, 4-1

TUCSON, Ariz. – The No. 22 UCLA women's tennis team captured its fourth consecutive road match and seventh in a row overall Friday, as it defeated Arizona at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, 4-1. With the win, UCLA improved to 13-5 on the season and 7-1 in Pac-12 play.
One streak snapped, but three others stayed alive for the Bruins on the doubles courts. The team of Ena Shibahara and Kristin Wiley moved to 7-0 as a pair with its 6-2 win over Samantha Czarniak and Marie Van Aelst on Court 3. The Wildcats quickly evened it up, though, as their team of Paris Corley and Lauren Marker snapped the Jada Hart-Terri Fleming 11-match run with a 6-4 victory on Court 1. That left it up to the Bruin duo Gabby Andrews and Alaina Miller, which earned the point with a tightly-contested 7-6 (4) decision on Court 2. The pair defeated Arizona's Sophia Thomas and Camila Westbrooks to run its record to 4-0. The doubles win gave the Bruins nine in a row, dating back to March 4.
Fleming quickly rebounded from her doubles loss to defeat Corley on Court 2, 6-1, 6-3. No. 3 Shibahara followed suit with her eighth consecutive win, a 7-5, 6-4 battle with No. 31 Lauren Marker on Court 1. The Wildcats did not cave, though, as Maggie Cohen carried a tiebreak win into the second set, where she defeated Kristin Wiley on Court 6, 7-6 (6), 6-2.
Down one set with Arizona threatening, the Bruins' Gabby Andrews took charge on Court 5. Following her 6-4 response in the second set, the sophomore overpowered Sophia Thomas to a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win to clinch the match and a seventh consecutive victory for the Bruins. The win also marked the fourth in a row for Andrews in singles play.
The Bruins will have less than 24 hours to prepare for their next match, a Saturday date at No. 29 Arizona State. Play will begin at 1:30 p.m. (PT) and can be viewed on ASU Live Stream-2.
