BRUINS RETURN TO NCAAS AT KARSTEN CREEK
The UCLA men's golf team begins its quest for a third NCAA Championship this weekend, beginning on Friday with the first of four rounds of stroke play at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Okla.

This year marks the 10th year of the format, which features four rounds of stroke play and three rounds of match play to determine the national champion. The 30-team field will face 18 holes of stroke play on both Friday (May 25), Saturday (May 26) and Sunday (May 27) before the field is trimmed to 15. Then on Monday, May 28, the top eight teams from those 15 will advance to the match play portion.

Play on Tuesday, May 29 will feature the match play quarterfinals in the morning and the semifinals in the afternoon, with the last two teams standing squaring off for the NCAA Championship on Wednesday afternoon (May 30).

GOLF CHANNEL TELEVISION COVERAGE
Golf Channel will have unprecedented coverage of the NCAA Championships, starting on Monday with the final round of stroke play at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT. On Tuesday, the network will air the match play quarterfinals beginning at 10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT and the match play semifinals starting at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT. Coverage of the match play championship will begin at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT on Wednesday.

THE NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS FIELD
Joining the 26th-ranked Bruins in the 30-team field are #1 Oklahoma State, #2 Texas A&M, #3 Oklahoma, #4 Vanderbilt, #6 Alabama, #7 Florida, #9 Auburn, #10 Illinois, #11 Baylor, #13 Texas Tech, #14 Clemson, #15 Texas, #16 North Carolina, #17 Stanford, #18 Arkansas, #19 Arizona State, #20 UNLV, #21 North Florida, #25 Kentucky, #28 Duke, #29 Kent State, #30 Oregon, #33 Northwestern, #35 BYU, #37 Kansas, #38 NC State, #48 Iowa State, #56 UCF and #104 Augusta, 

SEASON TEAM SUMMARY
The Bruins have finished inside the Top 5 in 10 of their 13 tournaments this season, including a fourth-place showing at the NCAA Bryan Regional (+2, 866) to advance to the NCAA Championships.

UCLA claimed a victory at the Southwestern Invitational (Feb. 26-27, -8, 856). The Bruins were second at both the Jackrabbit Invitational (March 9-10, -30, 834), the Marquette Intercollegiate (Oct. 1-3, +13, 877) and the El Macero Classic (April 13-15, +25, 889), tied for second at The Farms Invitational (Feb. 12-13, +8, 872), tied for third at the Inverness Intercollegiate (Sept. 18-19, -3, 565), fourth at both the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-18, -16, 848) and the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (Oct. 29-31, -37, 827) and tied for fourth at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (Oct. 20-22, -18, 846). 

The Bruins finished sixth at the Pac-12 Championships (-10, 1,410, April 23-25), rebounding from a tough first round to shoot 16-under in their final three rounds, including the
round of the day on April 25 (-10, 345). UCLA is a combined 56-under par on the season, including 47-under in their final rounds.

COLE MADEY
Junior Cole Madey, an All-Pac-12 Conference Second Team selection, leads the team with a 71.8 scoring average. He has five Top 10s, tying for 10th at the Pac-12 Championships. He was under par in all four rounds, opening with a pair of 3-under 68s.

Madey tied for 11th at the NCAA Bryan Regional (-2, 214), opening with a 3-under 69. He has 18 under-par rounds, including 10 in the 60s. Madey has 10 Top 20s in his 13 events, finishing fourth at the Southwestern Invitational (-1, 215, Feb. 26-27), seventh at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (-14, 202, Oct. 29-31), T-7 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate (-8, 208, Feb. 16-18) and tied for ninth at the Inverness Intercollegiate (-3, 139, Sept. 18-19). Madey's season-low round came in the second round at Makai with a 9-under 63.

HIDETOSHI YOSHIHARA
Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara, who was named All-Pac-12 Second Team, has five Top 10s and seven Top 20s. He has 14 under-par rounds and eight in the 60s. He tied for 16th at Pac-12s (-3, 281), closing with a 4-under 67.

Yoshihara tied for second at The Farms Invitational (-3, 213, Feb. 12-13), was third at the Southwestern (-3, 213), tied for third at the Marquette Intercollegiate (-2, 214), tied for sixth at Inverness (-4, 138) and tied for seventh at the El Macero Classic (+6, 222, April 13-15). Yoshihara's best round of the year was a 7-under 65 to close the Wyoming Intercollegiate. He tied for 35th at the NCAA Bryan Regional (+6, 222).

TYLER COLLIER
Senior Tyler Collier has three Top 10s and six Top 20s on the season, recording 12 under-par rounds and four in the 60s. He tied for seventh at the El Macero (+7, 223) and tied for 11th at the Jackrabbit Invitational (-2, 214, March 9-10), closing with a pair of 1-under 71s. The senior has been in the Top 20 in five of his eight events of the spring, including a ninth at the Wyoming Desert (-7, 209) and a T-9 at the Southwestern (+1, 217).

His final rounds have been outstanding, as Collier is a combined 15-under. He recorded his best round of the season (6-under 66) in his last trip at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. Collier was T-55 at Pac-12s (+7, 291) and T-40 at the NCAA Bryan Regional (+7, 223).

DEVON BLING
Devon Bling, who was named to the All-Pac-12 Freshman First Team, is third on the squad with a 72.2 scoring average and has finished in the Top 21 in five tournaments in a row, including a victory at the Jackrabbit (-15, 201). 

He tied for eighth at the NCAA Bryan Regional (-5, 211), finishing with a pair of 3-under 69s. Bling tied for 19th at the Pac-12s (-2, 282). He got better each round, following up an opening-round, 4-over 75 with a 1-under 70, a 2-under 69 and a 3-under 68.

Bling also tied for fifth at El Macero (+5, 221) and T-21 at the 3M Augusta Invitational (-1, 215, March 31-April 1). Bling's other Top 10 on the season came at the Southwestern (T-5, E, 216). He has seven Top 20s, and of his 17-under par rounds, 13 are in the 60s. Bling's rounds of the season were 7-under 65s at the Makai Invite (round one) and the Jackrabbit (round three).

EDDY LAI
Freshman Eddy Lai's top finish of the season came at the Jackrabbit when he was solo fifth (-6, 210), closing with a 6-under 66, which was a season low. The freshman has five Top 20s, tying for 12th at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate (-5, 211), tying for 16th at the Marquette (+5, 221), tying for 18th at the Southwestern (+6, 222) and tying for 20th at Inverness (E, 142). Lai has 13 under-par rounds with six in the 60s. He shot a 5-under 67 in his second round of the Makai Invite and four other 3-under rounds this season. Lai tied for 45th at Pac-12s (+4, 288) and tied for 40th at Regionals (+7, 223).

PATRICK MURPHY
Junior Patrick Murphy, who is the Bruins' alternate for the NCAA Championships, has played in nine tournaments, recording three Top 20s and three under-par rounds. Murphy tied for 41st at the Pac-12 Championships (+3, 287), shooting a 1-under 70 in round two and a pair of even-par 71s to close out the tournament.
Murphy tied for seventh at the El Macero Classic (+6, 222). He also tied for 17th at the Bill Cullum Invitational (E, 216) and tied for 18th at the TMU Spring Invitational (+10, 226). Murphy's best round of the season came in round one at the Cullum when he posted a 3-under 69. He also recorded a 2-under 70 in round one of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

HISTORY AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Bruins, who have won the National Championship twice in 1988 and 2008, are making their first appearance in the NCAA Championships since 2015 when they earned the final spot in Match Play, but lost 3-2 to top-seeded Illinois in the quarterfinals.

UCLA had appeared in every NCAA Championship from 2003 to 2015, finishing third in the 2003 Championship at Karsten Creek Golf Club. The Bruins were also second in 2004 (Hot Springs, Va.).

In 2011, the last time the tournament was held in Stillwater, the Bruins were first after stroke play, losing in the quarterfinals of Match Play to Duke (3-1-1). A year later, UCLA was at Riviera Country Club, placing second in stroke play, but falling to Oregon (3-2) in the quarterfinals. In 2014, the Bruins were sixth after stroke play, losing to LSU in the match play quarterfinals.
