LAST MEET
UCLA split its team for a pair of meets on Sept. 28. Led by a second-place finish from Robert Brandt, the Bruin men earned third place in the stacked field at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. Brandt finished the race in 23:26.4. He was joined by two other Bruins in the top-10 in Garrett Reynolds (fifth; 23:35.3) and Colin Burke (seventh; 23:38.5). UCLA was the only team with three runners in the top 10. Christina Rice crossed the finish line at the 20:05.7 mark, placing 10th overall and ninth among runners attached. The UCLA women took ninth place. Lilly Schmidt also placed in the top-50 at 48th (20:53.3).
ย
A collection of Bruins also competed that day in Santa Clarita, Calif., at The Master's University XC Invite. The UCLA men and women placed third and fourth, respectively. In the men's 8K, Andy Ehrenberg (24:53.6) and Darius Riley (24:55.3) went 2-3, followed by DJ Lawson (25:17.7) at 11th. Two Bruin women finished in the top-30 in the 5K race, led by freshman Claire Selleck, who recorded 13th place (18:20.3). Annabelle Werner notched 28th overall at 18:46.1.

MEET NOTABLES
  • UCLA is making its first appearance at the Nuttycombe Invitational since 2017, when the men and women placed ninth and 25th, respectively. Robert Brandt earned seventh place (23:52.4), while Erika Adler, a freshman at the time, clocked a time of 20:29.5 to finish 37th.
  • The Northern Arizona men won last season's Nuttycombe Invitational with 46 points, and Colorado came out on top in the women's race with 80 points.
  • This year marks the 11th edition of the Nuttycombe Invitational. The beautiful Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course opened in 2009.
  • Saturday's Highlander Invitational will feature multiple UCLA newcomers. The UCR Agricultural Operations Course is mostly flat with a few rolling hills, as well as hard packed dirt with pre-competition watering to reduce dust.
  • The course is run through the agricultural operations center, which features 100-year-old citrus trees.
ย

The 2019 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships will take place Nov. 1 in Monmouth, Ore. Both races will be televised on the Pac-12 Network. The men will kick off the championships at 11 a.m. (PT), followed by the women at noon.
