LOS ANGELES โ Alyssa Wilson set a Drake Stadium record in the hammer, one of three event victories for the sophomore, and Dotun Ogundeji also had a standout day for the UCLA track & field team at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational on Saturday.ย

It was a special day for UCLA, who honored both Johnson and Joyner-Kersee during the meet and also honored its senior class prior to the start of the 4x400m relays.ย

On her second to last attempt in the hammer, Wilson launched a huge record of 70.63m (231-8) and immediately began to celebrate the historic throw, which not only gave her a lifetime best but also set a stadium record. She also finished first in the discus (56.39m; 185-0) and shot put (17.10m; 56-1.25).

Now for Ogundeji โ who moved to No. 4 all-time in the shot put, tossing 21.05m (69-0.75) to finish second overall. Prior to that performance, Ogundeji won the discus with a career-best mark of 58.83m (193-0).

Meleni Rodney made the most of her senior day meet, posting a lifetime-best time of 53.01 seconds in the 400m to win the race. On the men's side, Joe Herrera took second with a time of 46.90.

UCLA opened the day with a win in the women's javelin, as Ilaria Casarotto notched her best attempt (47.45m; 155-8) on her first throw.

Senior Justin Stafford earned a second-place finish in the hammer, posting an effort of 64.95m (213-1) on his first attempt. UCLA also saw Otito Ogbonnia PR in the discus to place second at 53.42m (175-3), followed by Stafford at 49.55m (162-6).

The men's pole vault saw Tate Curran, Michael Fancey and Kyle Brown go 2-3-4, right behind Sondre Guttormsen's brother, Simon, who competed unattached and cleared 5.12m (16-9.5). Curran rose above 4.97m (16-3.5) on his first and only attempt at the height.

On the women's side, Elleyse Garrett capped her Drake Stadium career with a second-place finish, clearing 4.04m (13-3).

Christina Chenault was the lone competitor for the Bruins in the women's high jump. She cleared 1.68m (5-6) on her first attempt and ultimately placed fifth overall.

Freshman Jai Gruenwald mustered a career-best effort of 5.53m (18-1.75) in the long jump to place third, while the men's competition saw Idrees Bernard (7.24m; 23-9) and Matthew DeRoos (7.02m; 23-0.5) go 3-4, respectively. Senior CJ Alumbres placed third in the triple jump with an effort of 15.33m (50-3.5).

The distance events watched Tyler Janes PR in the 1500m, clocking a career-best mark of 3:46.92 to earn first place, while Gwyneth George registered a PR of 4:28.77 to place third overall.

In the men's 3000m steeplechase, Munir Kabbara had the lead for most of the race until the very end, where he placed second with a time of 9:27.81, and Kira Loren (11:08.93) took first on the women's side. Riley Kelly (1:50.75) finished second in the 800m.

The UCLA women went 1-2 in the 3000m run, with Alyssa Bautista (10:07.46) and Annabelle Werner (10:07.95) leading the way.

Kenroy Higgins II stood out in the 100m dash amongst a sea of veterans, taking second with a time of 10.66.

Wind-aided marks of 21.46 and 21.52 helped Leon Powell and Myles Webb place fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 200m dash, while Suzie Acolatse capped her last home meet of her career with a fourth-place finish (24.56).

In the women's 400m hurdles, freshman Nyree Brown placed first with a time of 1:01.99.

A season-best time of 39.99 seconds in the men's 4x100 between Webb, Powell, Harrison Schrage and Seth Holloway helped the Bruins take second overall.
