No. 2 Bruins Finish Off Sweep of Oregon State With Shutout

CORVALLIS, Ore. -ย Sophomore Holly Azevedo tossed her second complete-game shutout of the season, striking out three, while senior Taylor Pack and junior Bubba Nickles each hit home runs, as the second-ranked Bruins wrapped up a sweep of Oregon State with a 7-0 victory on Saturday at the OSU Softball Complex.
Azevedoย (9-0) had 1-2-3 innings in the second and seventh, allowing only four hits and two walks.ย UCLA (40-2, 14-1 Pac-12) had nine hits from eight different players, as Pack posted two hits.
The Bruins scored twice in the first inning. Freshman Colleen Sullivan led off with an infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, advanced to third on a grounder by senior Paige Halstead and scored on a two-out infield single by freshman Kelli Godin, who would then score UCLA's second run on an Oregon State (21-18, 3-13 Pac-12) error.
In the third, the Bruins scored one more. Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia walked to open the inning, and was pinch-run for by senior Stevie Wisz, who moved to second on a Pack single and scored on a single to right by redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan to make it 3-0.
In the fifth, a one-out solo homer by Pack, her ninth of the season, brought the lead to 4-0. In the sixth, one more swing made it 7-0. Halstead was hit to open the inning, and was pinch-run for by senior Danae Blodgett. Sophomore Kinsley Washington followed with an infield single, and one out later, both came home on Nickles' 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot to left-center.
UCLA returns to Easton Stadium next weekend, hosting Utah, starting on Friday, April 26 at 7 p.m. Free live audio will be available at UCLABruins.com.
