September 19, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Junior forward Ashley Sanchez scored two goals as No. 5 UCLA played to a 2-2 draw with Pepperdine at Waipi'o Peninsula Stadium in Hawai'i.
The Bruins (5-1-1) struck first in the fifth minute on Sanchez's first goal of the contest. Kennedy Faulknor was credited with the assist.
Pepperdine (3-3-2) answered in the 34th minute, tying the game with a goal by Chloe Gaynor. Just six minutes into the second half, the Waves took the lead, with Hailey Stenberg scoring the go-ahead goal at 51:41.
From that point, however, the Bruins flipped the switch. UCLA had a chance to tie in the 63rd minute on shots by Mia Fishel and Jessie Fleming, but both shots were saved by Pepperdine goalkeeper Kinsey Ehmann. Two minutes later, though, Sanchez came through with her second goal of the match and third of the season, with Fishel earning the assist.
UCLA outshot the Waves, 20-5, and had a 15-1 shot advantage after halftime. Bruin goalkeeper Teagan Micah recorded one save, while Ehmann finished the game with seven.
The Bruins will next take on host Hawai'i on Sunday at 6:30 pm PT.
