The matches will take place at Waipi'o Peninsula Soccer Complex.
SCOUTING THE WAVES
Pepperdine enters the week with a 3-3-1 record and big momentum after upsetting No. 2 Stanford, 1-0, on Sept. 13. The Waves also beat San Diego State, 2-0, last weekend. Pepperdine is led by Brie Welch, who has six points on two goals and two assists. Shelby Little and Leyla McFarland also have two goals apiece. Kinsey Ehmann and Zoe Clevely have split time in goal, with each recording two shutouts. Ehmann made six saves in the shutout win over Stanford.
THE SERIES WITH PEPPERDINE
UCLA is 19-3-3 all-time against the Waves and won the most recent matchup, 3-0, last season at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Anika Rodriguez recorded a goal and assist in that game, and Teagan Micah earned the shutout with two saves. The Bruins are unbeaten in the last nine matchups with Pepperdine and have not lost to the Waves since 2010, a 1-0 home loss. The two teams met in Hawai'i in 2014, with UCLA coming away with a 2-0 victory.
SCOUTING THE RAINBOW WAHINE
Freshman Kelci Sumida leads Hawai'i in scoring with two goals (both game-winners), and goalkeeper Alexis Mata has three shutouts and a 1.20 goals against average.
THE SERIES WITH HAWAI'I
UCLA is 6-0-0 all-time against UH and won the last matchup in Hawai'i, 6-0 in 2014. The Bruins' last two wins over Hawai'i have been by scores of 6-0. UCLA has allowed just one goal all-time in the series.
ABOUT LAST WEEK ...
The Bruins shut out No. 22 Wisconsin on Sept. 14, 1-0, in their only action of the week. Kennedy Faulknor came off the bench to score the game-winning goal in the 51st minute, assisted by Jessie Fleming. Goalkeeper Teagan Micah earned the shutout, her fourth of the season, and made a season-high five saves.
MORE MILESTONES FOR MICAH
It's been quite a 2019 for senior goalkeeper Teagan Micah. After spending the summer with the Australian Women's National Team at the World Cup, Micah returned for her final season in Westwood and has hit several major milestones in the first month of play. She earned her 200th career save in the season opening shutout win over Iowa State, recorded her 50th career win in the shutout victory over Florida, and earned her 30th career shutout against Wisconsin. She also won a Pac-12 record eighth Goalkeeper of the Week award on Sept. 3. Micah, who has four shutouts in six games and a 0.50 goals against average, has moved into third on UCLA's all-time saves chart with 215, and is one shy of moving into a tie for third on both career shutouts (30) and wins (51).
RODRIGUEZ RETURNS
After missing the last 11 games of the season last year with a knee injury, fifth-year senior Anika Rodriguez made her return to competition on Sept. 5 at Santa Clara, seeing 10 minutes of action in the second half. She made her home season debut on Sept. 14 against Wisconsin and played 38 minutes, recording one shot.
SANCHEZ TAKES STREAK TO SCHOOL-RECORD 16
Ashley Sanchez extended her school record point scoring streak to 16 games by scoring in the first three games of the season. Her streak ran from Sept. 30, 2018 to Aug. 29, 2019, and she totaled nine goals and 16 assists (35 points) during that time. With just over two seasons under her belt, Sanchez already ranks tied for fifth on UCLA's career list with 30 assists and is just eight away from Iris Mora's school record of 38. Sanchez's next assist will tie her for fourth place with Lauren Cheney.
FLEMING FLOURISHES
Seven MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List candidates were in action when UCLA faced off against Florida State, and it was UCLA senior and 2017 finalist Jessie Fleming who made the biggest statement, scoring two goals in the Bruins' 2-1 win over the defending national champions. Fleming's two goals came in the first 35 minutes of the game and were her first of the young season. The two-time World Cup player has totaled 24 goals and 20 assists in her career, and the multi-goal game was the fifth of her career, moving her into UCLA's Top 10 in that category. Fleming currently leads UCLA in scoring with six points.
MAINSTAYS
UCLA has kept a fairly consistent Starting XI so far this season, with just two different starting lineups. Teagan Micah, Karina Rodriguez, Lucy Parker, Kaiya McCullough, Delanie Sheehan, Marley Canales, Viviana Villacorta, Ashley Sanchez, Jessie Fleming, and Mia Fishel have started every match. Kali Trevithick started the first four, and Chloe Castaneda has started the last two. Last season, the Bruins employed 16 different starting lineups, with McCullough and Rodriguez the only two Bruins to start every game. McCullough has made 58 consecutive starts, the only game she has not started coming on Oct. 23, 2016 due to illness. Rodriguez has started in 34 consecutive games. Parker started every game at LSU in 2017 and 2018 and has a streak of 48 consecutive starts. She, Fleming and Micah are the only Bruins who have played all 540 minutes.
FRESHMEN IMPRESS
Two Bruin freshmen have cracked the starting lineup this season - forwards Mia Fishel and Kali Trevithick. Fishel is tied for the team lead in goals (two) and is second in points (five). She leads all Bruin players in shots (21) and shots on goal (11) and scored the game-winning goal in the Bruins' 1-0 win at Long Beach State. Trevithick, who has eight shots in four games, picked up her first assist in the Bruins' 2-0 win over Florida. Trevithick was a standout in the two exhibition games, recording two goals and two assists. Additionally, Rachel Lowe scored a goal in UCLA's season opener against Iowa State.
UCLA DEBUTS
Six Bruins made their official UCLA debuts during week one - junior transfer Lucy Parker, redshirt freshman Shana Flynn, and freshmen Mia Fishel, Kali Trevithick, Rachel Lowe and Brianne Riley. Parker, Fishel and Trevithick started both games. Riley has played in three games, Lowe in two, and Flynn saw her first action against Iowa State.
